Frequently Asked Questions

Do you maintain waiting lists?

No. We have an extensive database of therapists and coaches and we work independently of location, which means you can usually start working with a qualified practitioner within a week.

How long is a session?

Our sessions are generally 45 minutes long. This is sufficient time to reach the depth that a therapeutic session requires.

What happens during the first session?

We offer a free introductory session of 20 minutes, which is usually by means of a video chat or telephone call. This enables you to find out whether our approach suits you, and whether you have a good connection with the practitioner. If you want to go ahead after this introductory session, you can schedule an appointment. If you don’t feel a connection with your therapist or coach, you can feel free to try another one. In fact, we actually welcome this. After all, the connection you feel with your therapist or coach is essential for the success of your treatment.

What kind of problems do you treat?

You can come to us for a wide range of problems, including anxiety and depression, burnout, work-related problems, relationship issues, or questions about finding a sense of meaning in life. While we offer very powerful and supportive therapy & coaching at gevoelszaken, it is not suitable for making medical diagnoses or treating illnesses. Where serious mental health conditions are concerned, it is important to seek specialised professional help. Naturally, please feel free to contact us by phone or via e-mail if you have any questions about this. Please also refer to the bottom of this page for a list of useful phone numbers.

What are the rates for individuals?
  • A 45-minute session with a gevoelszaken therapist costs €99 (VAT-exempt).
  • A 45-minute session with a gevoelszaken coach costs €99 (excl. 21% VAT).

For more information, please refer to the Rates information page.

The services that gevoelszaken provides are less expensive than regular psychotherapeutic help.
2024 Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) rate for psychological treatment (45 min): €135.89

What are the rates for employers?

Rates for employers are available upon request. Click here to contact one of our account managers.

Does my health insurance cover treatment by gevoelszaken?

That depends. Many of our practitioners are covered by insurers under the alternative medicine category. This is displayed on their profile and is also stated on the invoices we send you. You can claim these invoices from your health insurance provider, but please note that often only a part of the cost is reimbursed.

Check your insurer’s website to find out whether you are covered for alternative medicine. You can visit Zorgwijzer, a website listing all insurers.

If you are employed, your employer may offer options as well. Nowadays, increasing numbers of organisations have a budget specifically providing for the development and mental support of their employees. Ask your employer about the options available to you. Gevoelszaken also offers programmes for employers.

Are there other ways I can get my expenses covered?

As mentioned, the costs of most of our therapists are at least partially reimbursed by your supplementary health insurance (under alternative medicine). However, this does not apply if you only have a basic policy.

Check your insurer’s website to find out whether you are covered for alternative medicine. You can visit Zorgwijzer, a website listing all insurers.

Nowadays, many employers put aside special funds from which you may be able to get reimbursed for your therapy or coaching. Keeping you healthy and ‘on the job’ is a priority for many employers, so don’t be afraid to bring it up! Ask your HR officer for more information.

As a self-employed entrepreneur (freelancer), you can claim the costs for job-related or other coaching as a business expense as long as it is necessary for your work. The regulations relating to this change very frequently, so check this with your accountant or tax adviser.

Coaching or therapy costs for individuals are currently no longer deductible. Once again, the same applies: call the tax helpline or consult your accountant to be sure.

In some cases, organisations such as municipalities or the UWV (Employee Insurance Agency) have special ‘funds’ for training or coaching. Do make enquiries about it, because it could make a big difference for you.

Why does gevoelszaken operate outside of the regular healthcare system?

We have deliberately chosen to operate outside the regular mental health care framework. This is not because of the quality of work being done there is lacking, but because the Dutch system suffers from excessive bureaucracy. The consequences of this include long waiting lists and an unnecessarily high administrative burden. In addition, because regular mental health care is guided by protocols, it often takes a long time to get to the heart of the matter.

At gevoelszaken, by contrast, you can start working on your problem right away. Because our practitioners are selected for their commitment and no-nonsense approach, we can focus fully on addressing your problem.

Why would I choose gevoelszaken if my insurer covers regular mental health care?

We would love it if insurers provided 100% coverage for all psychological help. This is not the case, unfortunately. In order for the insurer to cover the help you receive, your specific problem has to be given the right ‘label’. If you are struggling with stress, burnout symptoms, sex-related problems, relationship issues, existential problems, or issues that do not come with an official label or diagnosis, there is a good chance that any psychological help you receive for these problems will not be covered. In addition, there is also an insurance excess (385 euros per year in 2024), so you will have to pay for the first sessions yourself. We therefore advise you to investigate your options thoroughly with your insurer. Naturally, if you are unable to find a solution, you are more than welcome to come to us.

Does online therapy really work just as well as traditional therapy?

It’s a little more complex than that. Traditional therapy, in which the practitioner and client are present together in the same room, offers certain advantages that online therapy lacks. For example, the way a client moves says a lot about how they feel. Nevertheless, an online practitioner can ‘read’ their clients surprisingly accurately through a screen. Online therapy also has some advantages over traditional therapy. As an online therapy client, you do not have to navigate through heavy traffic or worry about finding a parking space, for example. There is also a much wider selection of practitioners and types of therapy available to you. How is my privacy protected?

It goes without saying that we adhere to the guidelines stipulated in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Among other things, this law regulates how we should handle your data, and that you have the right to access, change, or have your data deleted. In addition, we use the latest technologies to secure your data, such as encryption (converting data into code), access control (only certain people have permission), and continuous monitoring of systems to detect and stop suspicious activities.

For more information, please read our privacy statement.
